Industrial lighting — high bay

High bay lighting is the one outdoor-adjacent category where the beam angle decides everything. Mount a 90 degree optic at 6 m over racking and you will light the top of the shelves and leave the aisle floor dark; mount a 140 degree optic at 12 m and you will spill light onto the walls and lose the lux you paid for. Getting the optic right matters more than getting the wattage right.

The three series below are separated by exactly that: available beam distribution and driver architecture. All are IP65 rated, which for an indoor fixture sounds excessive until you have seen a warehouse roof leak or a production hall washed down at the end of a shift.

The Du02 Driver UFO high bay uses high-density 7070 LEDs with an external driver to deliver exceptional lumen outputs of 20,000–40,000 lm at 100–200 W. The 60°/90° beam option and IP65 protection suit it for logistics centres, airports and sports arenas with ceiling heights of 8–20 m. Cold-start rated to −40 °C and 4 KV surge protected. The Ru01 DOB UFO high bay offers both a 90° direct beam and 140° wide distribution, making it equally suitable for high-bay racking and low-ceiling workshops. Beam angle against mounting height

The Su01 offers a standard 90 degree downward beam, which is the right choice for high mounting over narrow aisles and racking where you want the light to reach the floor rather than the shelf faces. The Ru01 offers both 90 degree direct and 140 degree wide distribution, which makes it the flexible option when the same building has a high-bay racking zone and a lower open assembly area.

As a rough starting point: above roughly 9 m, favour the narrower optic; below roughly 7 m in open space, the wider one. Between those, it depends on aisle width and rack height. DOB or external driver

The Su01 and Ru01 are DOB fixtures — the driver sits on the LED board, which removes the electrolytic capacitors that usually fail first, reduces weight, and keeps the fixture shallow. In a high bay, weight is a real consideration because every fixture is a lift or a scissor-lift visit to install and to replace.

The Du02 uses an external driver, and that is what lets it reach 20,000 to 40,000 lm from high-density 7070 LEDs at 100–200 W. An external driver also means the driver can be replaced without discarding the LED board, which matters on a large installation with a long maintenance horizon. Where output or serviceability governs, specify Du02; where weight and simplicity govern, specify a DOB series.

Lumen output and fixture count

Output runs from 11,000 lm on a 100 W Su01 to 40,000 lm on the Du02. Higher output per fixture means fewer fixtures, less wiring, and fewer installation hours — but also worse uniformity if you space them to match, and a bigger dark patch when one fails.

For most warehouses the economically correct answer is a moderate output at closer spacing rather than the fewest possible high-output fixtures, because uniformity is what the floor staff actually experience. We will run both options on your floor plan and show the fixture count, uniformity ratio, and connected load for each so the trade-off is visible before you order.

Thermal design and why high bays fail early

A high bay sits in the hottest air in the building, because that is where heat collects. A fixture that holds its output on a bench at 25 °C can lose a substantial fraction of it at 45 °C under a roof in summer, and the LED junction temperature is what determines whether you see the rated lifetime or half of it.

All three series use aluminium bodies with the heatsink integral to the housing rather than a bolted-on plate, and the disc form factor exists to move air across that surface. If your building runs hot — a foundry, a bakery, an uninsulated roof in a hot climate — tell us the ambient temperature you actually measure at roof level, not the outdoor figure, and we will specify for it.

Custom high bay production — OEM and ODM

High bay projects often turn on a detail the catalogue does not carry: a specified driver brand named in the tender, an emergency battery pack, a particular hanging arrangement, a sensor built in, or a colour temperature the client has standardised across their estate. We manufacture these fixtures, so those are production options rather than refusals.

UFO high bay questions buyers ask

What wattage UFO high bay do I need for my warehouse?

Wattage is the last thing to decide. Start from mounting height, aisle and rack geometry, and the target lux on the floor, then choose the beam angle, then the output. A 150 W fixture at close spacing often beats a 300 W fixture at wide spacing on uniformity for a similar connected load. Should I choose a 90 degree or 140 degree beam angle?

As a starting point, above about 9 m favour the 90 degree optic so light reaches the aisle floor rather than the shelf faces; below about 7 m in open space favour 140 degrees. Between those it depends on aisle width and rack height. The Ru01 offers both distributions, which is why it suits buildings with a high racking zone and a lower open area.

What is the difference between DOB and external-driver high bays?

In a DOB high bay the driver is integrated onto the LED board — fewer failure-prone electrolytic capacitors, lighter, shallower. The Su01 and Ru01 are DOB. The Du02 uses an external driver, which is what lets it reach 40,000 lm and also allows the driver to be replaced without discarding the LED board. Choose DOB for weight and simplicity, external driver for maximum output and serviceability.

Are IP65 high bay lights necessary indoors?

It is not always mandatory, but it is cheap insurance. Warehouse roofs leak, production halls get washed down, and dust ingress degrades output over years even where water never appears. All three series are IP65 as standard, so the question does not usually need answering separately.

How hot can your high bay lights run?

Operating temperature is published per series on the product pages. The important point is to specify against the ambient you actually measure at roof level, not the outdoor temperature — the air under a roof in summer can be far hotter, and junction temperature is what determines whether you see rated lifetime. All three series use aluminium bodies with an integral heatsink; tell us your measured roof-level ambient and we will specify for it.

Can you supply high bay lights under our own brand?
